2016, The Year of Action

January 1, 2016

Family in Canada

Let’s face it. Everyone makes New Year’s resolutions. (Mine were made while watching Star Wars, by the way). Every year I resolve to lose weight. It has seemed to have the opposite effect.

This year is different. For me, 2016 is a year of taking real action toward goals I truly want. Yes, I would love to lose weight. But do I want it enough to work for it? I don’t think I do. I would love to see World Peace. That is beyond my control. I want to be financially set for the rest of my life. I have done that in the past and had been successful for quite a while. However, I found that the only way I could do that was to sacrifice other things like time with family and friends, my health, and my happiness. Yes, it paid for my travel addiction. But life between vacations was not good.

What are you doing for your New Year’s resolutions? This year I am re-accessing what is really important. This year I am following through on the resolutions I made.

  • As far as work goes, helping others to discover their true Italian souls by experiencing custom travel to Italy is what it is all about. Take Me Home Italy, my business, is already assisting nearly 2 dozen people in 2016 on separate adventures to do just that. We have booked busses, trains, hotels, apartments and even a dinner party in Abruzzo for some of them. Most will be meeting their Italian cousins in Abruzzo and/or Campania. They will visit the cities and towns of their choice and some will even attend the classic Calcio Championship (Original soccer with no rules and much rough-housing) in Florence in June. Wine tasting, olive oil tasting, balsamic vinegar tasting…you name it, they got it. And I had the pleasure of setting it up for them. Now it is your turn: Where do you want to visit in Italy? Are you searching for Italian relatives or just searching for the real Italy? I can help you. And I will.

  • More work goals: In June I will travel in northern Italy to towns and cities I have yet to visit. I want to help others find those special locations where they can experience the Authentic Italian lifestyle. I plan to visit Undine, Treviso, Trieste and Vicenza in the Northeast, Parma, Cremona, Modena and who knows where else. I want to go to Maremma where the Italian Cowboys are too. I will share all the adventures on my blog and with anyone inquiring about custom travel to Italy.

  • As far as self-improvement goes, I am personally making a plan to experience living in Italy. Last year I obtained my dual Italian Citizenship. That will simplify things as I experiment with living in Italy myself. First step, I am downsizing all my possessions as I can’t take it with me to Italy. It is an emotional task. Yet, with each item donated I feel lighter, happier. Next, I will be off to Italy at the end of January to search out possible towns to choose as my home base in Italy. I will be looking south on this visit. I would really like to be near the ocean. I am most at peace when the scent of salt sea air permeates my surroundings. I wonder what winter is like in the South of Italy? I guess we will find out.

  • While on the house hunt/town hunt I will be visiting a couple special places including Vietri where Romeo Cuomo creates incredible ceramics. After that adventure it will be on to Melfi and my Wine Cousins the Carbones. (Visit www.thewinefathers.com) for information on how to become a member of the wine family.) We will tour their artisanal winery “Farmers of the lost Fruits” winery and have dinner and winetasting together.

This year I my New Year’s resolutions are really about following my bliss. I love helping others experience Italy to the fullest capacity. And I have been dreaming of living in Italy myself since I first visited when I was 19 years old. Who knows if it will live up to my expectations? I don’t. I do know, however, that these resolutions are ones I can work for and can accomplish. And I might even lose weight in the process…
